About Me

This page is just getting started and will be updated soon.  It will follow me as I work with sawdust firing and raku firing.  It will include everything from building a raku kiln to creating my own pieces and glazes.

What's New?

  • My kiln set up is now done!  I have a heavy duty garbage bin for sawdust firing, a pit dug out for pit firing and most excitingly my raku kiln.
  • The raku kiln has been made from plumbing part and parts from old heaters.  It rests on a base of cement and ceramic bricks.  The cover is made from mesh wire and ceramic insulation fibre.
  • Local potter Andrew Quient has agreed to help me by bisquing my pieces at a very reasonable fee.  The firing begins July 26.  Once the pieces are fired I'm going to start right in on testing my new kiln!!!!!
  • I now have my clay, 50 lbs. of white low-fire raku stone ware, thanks to Amherst Pottery Supply.  I have two heavy duty garbage cans that will serve as a raku kiln and a container for sawdust firings.
  • Two plans are being examined and will be narrowed down to one final kiln design.  It's all going to come down to availible parts.
  • Thanks to Cowls Sawmill in Amherst for providing sawdust for this project.
